Apply online for Basic Disclosure
You are about to apply for Basic Disclosure using our online application process. Before you proceed, you should read the following information.
You can only apply online, if your current address is in the UK and if you have been living at this address for at least twelve months. If you do not satisfy these criteria, you will have to apply using a paper application form.

Cost
The fee for a Basic Disclosure is £23. You will need to pay using a credit or debit card. All major cards are accepted. This will appear as BT Disclosure Scotland on your account statement. Please have your card details handy before you proceed.
Also, as of 07:00 on Thursday 4th March 2010, MASTERCARD payments will be subject to the additional layer of security for online transaction, 3-D Secure. Disclosure Scotland are introducing 3D secure for on-line payments and users that are registered with ‘Verified by Visa’, or ‘MasterCard Secure Code’ will be asked to provide their passwords as part of the online payment process. PLEASE NOTE: we cannot accept payment by VISA ELECTRON CARD. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Obtaining a receipt
Your certificate acts as proof that you have paid for the service.
Information required
You will be asked for your passport, driving licence or national Insurance number. You will not be able to proceed without supplying at least one of these pieces of information.
You will also need to provide:
- Information from a utility bill (gas, electricity or telephone) at your home address
- The number of any previous disclosure
- Your address details covering at least the past five years
- Your employer's details (if the disclosure certificate has to be sent there) - IF THIS IS THE CASE, PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU INCLUDE YOUR EMPLOYER'S COMPANY NAME TO LINE 1 OF THE ADDRESS FIELD
Sending documentation
You will need to send us photocopies of the following documents:
- A utility bill (gas, electricity or telephone) or another document issued by a government department. or your local authority which confirms your current address, and
- Either your passport, driving licence or birth certificate which shows your date of birth

What happens next?
